Bleeearrrgh. I've got to pay bills tomorrow - I let 'em slide before Thanksgiving, and I'm sure I'm going to be getting some hate mail tomorrow. Time for the checking account to take a hit.

Not much else going on - just waiting for Christmas, so I can spend the rest of the money I don't have ... hell, I'm still drinking Folger's.

Good linkage? Try SETI@Home, for a chance to help find life elsewhere, Project Gutenberg, to make sure that Fahrenheit 451 never becomes a plausible reality, and Everything to realize exactly how totally stream-of-consciousness applies to the Internet. Enjoy, and if you've got a cool site you frequent, or just something wacky to share, send me some electronic love. 'Til next time ...

Deeyam, it's nearly Thanksgiving. We've finally seen the demise of the Post - I cleared the webspace and hit the road. Kinda sad, but I'd rather see it gone than gone to hell, if you know what I mean. So, I now have ... damn, still no more free time.

My main man in Indiana has finally redesigned his house - check out the new version of The Korova Hotel. Sweet. And don't you dare skip those fabulous Quake 3 desktops he popped out.

Other goodness? No house yet, and no million dollars, but I am getting into some network training and working on getting another job. Same crappy hours, more money. Ah, the things we do for a friggin' dollar bill ...

Time's flown, but I haven't had a whole lot of fun ...

Within a week or so, I ought to have a damn house bought, thanks to the good will of TGHWFM and my parents. That will be a whole new load of stress, but it'll be nice to be putting money into something instead of pissing it down the drain every month. Now if SWBell.net can just make sure my ADSL connection can move with me.

My days as the webmaster at Kingpin Post are done - I can't maintain a website, learn networking/PC hardware/WindowsNT/et al, buy a house, and keep my sanity all at the same time. As the website maintenance doesn't have a direct effect upon my health, wealth, and happiness, it's outta here. It was real, it was fun, and it was sometimes even real fun, but I'll just have to pack up the experience and move on. Public thanks to Über for the opportunity to write for the gaming community, even if it only included ten or so people.

I've been back to SiN, as there seems to actually be some players out there willing to use the few remaining servers. I've managed to find that balance point between all day fragging fests and no gaming at all, and I'm working on balancing it further with a daily dose of training for my MCSE certification. Fingers crossed, and I need somebody to drop one of those nifty IBM Thinkpads (preferably in the 500MHz flavor) in my lap - any takers?

If you're not in Dallas right now, be very glad - the weather here blows goats. It's November, and it's still reaching 80°F - where the hell is winter this year? Damn, I'd hoped for the yearly torrents that seem to saturate this area during the 'winter' months ...

Starbuck's Coffee at Sam's Club - what is the world coming to? Ah well, it sure as hell tastes better than canned Folger's.

I'm gonna jump on the bandwagon and tell you to go get Napster - it's about the coolest little MP3 search program I've found. You share your MP3 files with anyone on who's logged in at the time, and there's a lot of T1+ connections on at any one time, meaning you can find that copy of Anne Murray's 'You Won't See Me' for your private stash. Go to the site and read up on it a bit, and then check it out. One word of warning - dial-up users are still facing those 3MB+ downloads for the high-quality audio files. Sorry to say, but high-bandwidth connections are rapidly getting to be the norm. Call your ISP and tell 'em you want DSL.

More news when I get it, and I apologize for the weeks without updates - you can all take a turn flogging me ...

And by the way, for anyone needing Christmas gift suggestions? Ummm, money would be nice ...

Buying a house, getting a new job, and generally trying not tear all my hair out! Just when you think you've got a handle on all of it, here comes something else - yaaaaaagh.

Coffee is still good, although I'm beginning to suspect that I may be an addict ;) ...

I've been digging into the MP3 scene a bit, and finding that it's a lot of fun surfing the Kermit MP3 search engine looking for all those old songs that you've forgotten you loved so much. Just another facet of the endless well of time-burning things to do on the Internet. I'm convinced that it's going to be the end of human interaction as we've known it ...

Apple almost fubared themselves out of a life this week with their G4/Motorola problems. I'll be interested to see how my mom's new one runs - too bad it still has one of those crud-o-matic ATI video chips. I'd love to see the Mac hardware with some support for a really high-powered 3D acceleration hardware solution. That and a new OS ...

Linkage for those who don't know already: Slashdot.org for fascinating discussions on everything under the sun, by all the tech junkies you can stand ... and Ars-Technica for some fun hardware news, reviews, and general wise-ass comments. Put yourself in the know ...

I'll try and get back out here soon - email me if you're bored ;).

- sunday 10 03 99 -

For those who've bothered to see if I've updated ... sorry about the massive passage of time here. Life just get's busy as hell at times - usually when you've just committed to doing something else that would be a lot more fun than the shit you're required to do on a daily basis.

For film, if you haven't already, go spend your pennies on The Sixth Sense. This movie had me sitting on the edge of my seat and twitching for the duration, and the final plot twist ... my only reaction was a softly whispered 'Oh, fuck.' This is one of those rare films that I sat through and believed completely - walking back out into the evening air, the world had been subtly altered for me. Only a few films can lay this claim on me - this is one that I'll remember for a long time.

Books - fixing to start reading Straub's Mystery again. This is another of those books that just grab me and carry me off to a different world, somewhere unreachable and almost mythical in stature. Waiting on some love from Über and Kali - they're sending me a box of goodies h0rked from Border's Books in the hinterlands. I could spend my entire personal income on books and coffee, given the opportunity - working in a bookstore would be dangerous for my financial health.

Gaming? Hehe, like I still have time to do any of that. WOS CTF is out and running - Carl at 2015 finally knocked it out, and it's pretty cool. However, it still needs quite a bit of tweaking. It'd be nice to think the Sin community still has enough life in it to keep trucking through the fall, but I don't see it happening. I tried to find a game or two the other day, and it's like trying to find ice in the Sahara desert ...

Coffee? Folger's - I'm still piss-broke. And the situation is not improving ...
