No updates for a month - what kind of lame-ass webmaster am I? The kind who's ISP suddenly changes his IP without notification or justification, jacking up his DNS, email, and every other thing about the illegitimate server that's running behind my firewall. Sheeeyit. We'll see how fast it gets fixed.
Still rolling through this one, to the point that the wife thinks I'm obsessed *Warthog* or some *Covenant* thing. *Plasma grenade* No *Ghost* way!
Working my way through the masterpieces while waiting for this magnificent item and the end of the matter. Then of course I have to wait for the special edition DVD so that we can actually see the whole story. On it's release, I will be sitting on my ass for at least 13 hours straight as I watch the trilogy as intended, in one continuous viewing. I can only hope that a theater in the area will provide the opportunity to see them all on the big screen again.
More later - got another half a movie to watch.

Farkin' hell. I've been accused of being lame again. I must repent, and purge myself of the evil laziness that infects my bones.
Been working like a good little monkey, and I'm sitting on a network that's a little more solid than it was 8 months ago. Been fighting the good fight for email limits, desktop standards, and network security, and occasionally getting enough traction not to fall on my ass. When I can look through my Exchange administrator console and not see any goddamn two gigabyte mailboxes, I'll be so happy I'll probably wet my pants. As it is, I have to be satisfied that our network is slipping slowly off the Google's Greatest Hits chart, and maybe I don't have to worry about the heathen Chinese browsing my file server. At least I don't have cancer ... yet.
Finally dug out the next 40 hours of TV-viewing that I'll do. Have been thoroughly enjoying the whole series - I missed the fun of the original broadcasts, and to be honest, I really like being able to cram four episodes into an evening. You get a feeling of continuity that I'm not sure you could retain if you spread it out over half a year. Not much mythology in this set so far, but I expect there will be more to come. From what I understand, this is the last really good season, but we'll see.
Spent some cash on this badass piece of merchandise. I'm thoroughly impressed so far, but I'm discovering that my aging space heater of a video card (a GeForce 3 Ti200, overclocked to the limit) is not up to the task of pushing anything newer than last year's games. Looks like it's time for an upgrade.
Been grinding out to some old school Metallica - if you don't own Master of Puppets, you can't call yourself a metalhead. Take Korn and stick 'em in your ass - they've got nothing on record with the balls that Metallica exhibited with "Battery" and "Damage, Inc". With all the idiocy that Hetfield and Ulrich have pulled over the last several years, it's sometimes hard to remember that these guys redefined the face of thrash between 1983 and 1986. Listening to Hetfield whine over "St. Anger" makes me wanna cry.
Revisited one of my favorite movies of all time recently - this time with the wife. I was afraid that the whole flick might be a little too far out into the ozone for even the most patient spouse, but she seemed to enjoy it. I still recommend this one to those who need something out of the ordinary for a Friday night. An intense, richly layered meal of vices and virtues with a gorgeous Michael Nyman soundtrack. Joe Bob sez check it out. Well, not really, but I love the way that sounds.
Also saw the kinda-sorta-exciting-disappointing-might-be-revolutionary-prequel-sequel-interlude that is The Animatrix. With a widely ranging level of quality, the 9 episodes cover a fairly large bit of ground in the whole Matrix mythology, expanding on concepts raised in the two movies. I wasn't pissed that I spent time watching it, but it could have been better.
Finally got around to reading one of the more interesting entries in the King library. As both a technical experiment and a gothic horror story with a good bit of salty Yankee humor thrown in, Dolores Claiborne worked really well for me. I am going to hunt the movie down - if it's anywhere near as good as the book, it ought to be worth my while.
Okay, that's enough for now. I strongly suspect it may be another thirty days before I get one of these out. If you want to bitch about it, I usually read it.

Yes, I know, I am completely lame. I am sitting here at home when the coolest gaming convention on the planet is going on 15 miles south of me. Coincidence has conspired against me again, and I'm quite sure my fellow Borg Homies are ready to have my head on a plate. At least I haven't been entirely unproductive.

This is gonna rock.

I DID IT! A WHOLE MONTH AND A HALF AGO! Wow! I am a slacking bastard!
SO, it's been months without an update. Shit. Okay, we've been through the heat, still in the heat, had a good Fourth of July involving kids, squirrels, barbeque beef and pork, and long drives. Two of my children are 1400 miles away thanks to my ex-wife, and I won't be seeing them for another 5 months. If only voodoo dolls worked. Enough on that scene, and on to the movies.
Recently seen:
- Pirates of the Caribbean - A damn good pirate flick with a solid cast, fun special effects, good pacing, and an energetic soundtrack. Johnny Depp is almost in drag, Geoffrey Rush is greasy, and Orlando needed to shave before this one. A thoroughly enjoyable movie that should fare really well on DVD.
- Unfaithful - My God - I may have died and gone to hell. This movie was the lamest piece of unmotivated, draggy, infuriatingly softcore crap that I've seen lately. From the totally stupid leap into the sack by Diane Lane to the 180 degree swing into pyscho snowglobe murderer by Gere (who seems to drag every movie he's ever been in down into the mud), this movie had me laughing in all the wrong places, wincing at the rough sex in the hall, and wishing that Lane had grabbed a taxi fifteen minutes into this hellish waste of time. Adrian Lyne should die for this.
- Gangs of New York - This is half of a good movie. If edited and trimmed down by about an hour and a half, Scorsese could have wound up a tight, brutal story of the New York slums in the days of Tammany Hall. Instead, he has created a tight, brutal story of the New York slums and the gangs that inhabited them, squished into a draggy soap opera with Leonardo DiCaprio and Cameron Diaz. Daniel Day Lewis has crafted a thoroughly evil villain in William Cutting, and Scorsese pulls out all the stops in set design, costuming, and sound. It just didn't hit the right buttons with me - maybe I need to see it again.
- The Sum of All Fears and Daredevil - Two reasons that Ben Affleck needs a new agent. With his tiny teeth and his inherent arrogance, and the fact that he is goofy enough to marrying Jennifer Lopez, Ben can be one of the more irritating guys on film. With Dogma and Chasing Amy, his auteur friend, Kevin Smith, helped drag the good side of Affleck out into the light - he played people for whom arrogance and small teeth were a character trait, not a flaw. Trying to put that into the person of Jack Ryan, who will forever and always be Alec Baldwin, just didn't work. With the sole exception of the nuclear blast in Baltimore, the first movie took a long and draggy Tom Clancy novel and turned it into a short and stupid action flick. In the second movie, a great idea and a solid comic book get turned into a steaming pile of crap by pedantic direction, crappy scripting, a thudding soundtrack, and flat acting on the part of all the core players. Blah.
I will be expanding the above list shortly - it's been a long month for movies.
