Woohoo! Ten days this time - I do have a good excuse ;). Spent a nice weekend getting fried on the beaches of Mustang Island, near Port Aransas on the Gulf Coast. Had a lot of fun catching small fish off the pier, swimming in the surf, and cooking breakfast as the sun rose, and getting eaten alive by various insects. Apart from the last bit, a thoroughly fun and relaxing weekend. Now I'm back at work - yargk.

Other than work and sleep, I haven't been up to much. It's been a beautiful sixty-five degrees in the mornings here - fall has finally arrived. Coffee is much better when it's cooler outside, and yep, I'm still drinking the cheap stuff.

New books have included Peter Straub's Ghost Story and Jonathan Kellerman's Survival of the Fittest. And other than that, I've been struggling to stay awake reading the thrilling, always entertaining Networking Essentials from the Exam Cram series - yaaaawwwwwwwn.

Over and out - finally went and did it. I wiped 99.5% of the addictive substances off of my hard drive, and I'm now going to get down and focus on the important stuff that I've essentially blown off for the past several months. I have to say that online gaming is as addictive for me as nicotine and heroin are for other folks - it's just too easy to burn nine consecutive hours sitting in one spot.

Kingpin Post is still on the list of 'things to do on a daily basis', but online Quake III is not. I've said my goodbye's at Sin Post and Ritualistic, and I'm trying to get the loose ends tied up in other spots. Enough said.

On the coffee front, it's obviously been Folger's still, as no one as been nice enough to come forward and offer me a higher-paying job ;). However, Folger's is certainly not the worst coffee in the world today . . .

What else? Been honing my writing skills by working through a full-game walkthrough over at the Post. That's kept me awake at nights for the last week or so. On the literary (well, sort of) front, I've been working through that master of disaster, Tom Clancy, and his newish title Without Remorse. Think Charles Bronson's Death Wish with patriotic stripes - a bit weird, if I do say so myself. Hillerman was good, but I wanted something a bit longer than 250 pages.

I'll be gone for a good week or so (like you're not already used to that) - a short visit to the Gulf Coast for sunburning, beer consumption, and general lounging is in order. Damn it'll be nice to get out of this stinking pit of a city . . .
