Yup, this sucks big time. I'm now on a wonderful *cough* *choke* 56K connection, thanks to the fubaring of my DSL my SWBell.net and ASI (which so far stands for All Suck Incorporated, IMHO). I scheduled service to be transferred about three weeks before we moved, and as of now, I'm still waiting for the service to be *disconnected* at my previous address - hmm, as far as I could tell, the lack of dialtone and signal on my old line seemed to indicate that the service was disconnected, as of June 5th. Shit on toast. Regardless, I'm now connecting at 52000bps over a funky new PCI WinModem, and it looks like a minimum of *four* more weeks until these assholes get their business together. Twenty days to provision a circuit and switch the box at the CO. Pathetic.
On other fronts - moved in, unpacked, and damn is our new office/bedroom cramped. It's totally assholes and elbows in there when both of us are on the computers and the kids are running around. Ah well, it's home.
News? Hmm, the world is about to get RIMMed, which sucks, but we might be doing it on *really* fast connections. 40Mbit dedicated lines to the house? Damn, that's halfway to fiber speed, at waaaaaaaaay less per month. Also, if you're looking for an interesting alternative to IE5.1 and Netscape's 100% pure suck, try out Opera. It's not free, but the fully functional demo is. Integrated with everything under the sun, and for just about any OS that you can pull out of your hat - the latest version is a bit buggy, but it's well worth a look. I had hopes for something that chewed a little less VM on this NT machine, but Opera's not it. Ah well ..
One more thing - I finally saw American Beauty. If you see one movie this year, it should be this one. Hopefully you haven't seen any spoilers, and don't really know much about it - if you go into it blind like I did, prepare to be knocked back on your heels. I don't think I saw a single significant flaw anywhere in the film, and the caliber of performance given by everyone onscreen was absolutely amazing. Beautiful cinematography, great script, expected but still shocking ending. One of those that leaves you a bit shaky with the super-realism of it. Wow. I'm gonna have to put a link up on the cinema page for this one.

New page up - a Junkbusters Declaration. If you're as tired as I am of receiving offers for !!HOT TEEN SEX!! and ?!$100K A YEAR WITH NO WORK!? in your inbox, and throwing away a national forest worth of trash out of your real-world mailbox, check out the Junkbusters website. They've got some nice, easy-to-read forms to generate form letters, an HTML generator, and a whole slew of information and help for those drowning in spam.
Cerddorion/Jihad is still working on bringing his site back up, and circumstances may be forcing a further delay. Looking forward to the final result.
Other than that - not a whole lot happening until Friday. That's when life goes into turbo hell mode - weddings, moving, relocation, cleaning, disconnection from the 'net - aaaaaaaaagh. Here's hoping it's all worth it.
