Wow. Welcome to ClusterFuckopolis. I am currently down one vehicle - the POS SUV that my wife drove was totaled in by a dumbass in a 2001 Intrigue. I am eminently glad that the vehicle is gone, having pissed well over $5000 into it to replace the engine, air conditioner, and various other parts, but I am now being forced to deal with the wonderful world of lawyers, insurance salesmen, adjusters, and finally the ultimate fucking scum, car salesmen. I would just as soon peel my fingernails back one at a time, rub salt on the nail beds, and then plunge them into a bucket of burning gasoline as deal with any of the above-listed thieves. Aaagck.

On the good side of life? Beer is still being brewed by Guinness, Bass, Paulaner, Schneider & Sohn, and a bunch of other folks who know what the hell they're doing. Proof? Go here.

Reading some pretty topical Clancy, The Sum of All Fears. As usual, he meanders out of a whizbang start into 200 pages of character introductions before getting to the meat of the story. The technical aspects of the stories occasionally override such concerns as plot or character, but with familiar faces like Jack Ryan, John Clark, Ding Chavez, et al, Clancy keeps you reading. Contempt for bureaucrats and an occasionally overplayed level of respect for military figures ride along in every step of the story, but the writing pulls you in. I can't say that I'm a devout Clancy fan, but when I want a good semi-fictional military/political thriller to read, he usually pulls through. At damn near 900 pages, this one will hold me for a few days. And as scary as it might be, I find myself liking the man's politics - Christ, I am getting conservative ...

I am stuck on this album by this band - for the first time in a long time, I've found a band that I can listen to in a loop. Fire up the CD, and let it run. A buddy from work tossed the disc on my desk - just not his style of music. I've got the damn thing stuck in my head. Not bad for a bunch of Armenians living in LA. The overall sound is like a mix of old-school Anthrax, with some Jello Biafra-ish / Dead Kennedys vocal stylings and aggro-political commentary. The dry, in-your-face production job by Rick Rubin combined with the shifting rhythmic patterns that roll between the guitar, drums, and bass lay down a solid foundation for Serj Tankian's off-the-wall vocals. Lyrically, things like "Wired are the eyes of the horse on the jet pilot/One that smiled as he flew over the bay" are absolutely perfect for screaming out the window during rush hour - you can get that great red-faced, forehead vein-popping look that makes your fellow commuters cross themselves and reach for their glovebox 9MM pistols. Rock on, rock on ...

I have just spent the past five hours cleaning up the all of the bullshit that Microshaft's Word 2000 splattered all over this page when I accidentally opened it and then saved. Suffice to say that the Microsoft translation of the page was *broken*, *ugly*, and *illegible*. I apologize if anyone has tried to visit the page in the past few hours ... I won't make the same mistake again.

I have run through Return To Castle Wolfenstein, and I will say that it is one of the best games I've played in a long time. I actually finished the single player game, and only wish I had time to go through the multiplayer piece. Awesome graphics, excellent level design, stunning modeling, great weapons, etc, etc, etc. Snag it if you can.

Other than that, I'm still looking for a new job. Check the updated resumé, and drop me a line.

I have visited Heaven. It is good.

ISA Server is gone - RRAS and ZoneAlarm are in place. I'll jack with ISA again later, but for now, I need simplicity and function.

ExxonMobil sucks - oops, did I say that out loud? Anybody wanna hire me? Let me know.

ISA Server is *patched*, which is probably more important than being installed, considering Microsoft's propensity for slamming the barn door shut *after* the horse has run away and been turned into glue. That said, it's got some awesome features, most of which I have barely scratched the surface of. I just wanted to throttle down some bandwidth, and it turns out that it probably won't work like I want it to.

Nero! The best CD-burning software in the known universe has just moved up another notch. They've got full support for everything you'd ever want to do with a CD-burner, from copying music and data discs to burning DVD's to making a big, fat, 650MB floppy disk. W00t!

Got everything on my web server reorganized, reformatted, re-linked, and reassembled, so if you find any of those pesky 404 errors, lemme know. I've moved to a bit simpler layout, with less depth to the directories, and I'm going to begin investigating some dynamic HTML to try and eliminate having to manually edit 75 pages of text when I need to make an update to the layout.

Blah. I've had four pints of Guinness, and I'm going to go kill some Nazis - good night.

Returned from Houston. It still smells of ass.

ISA Server is installed. Functional? Hope so.
