New sets of screens from my Quake III Arena maps - enjoy!

Building a network - and it's a lot of fun. Spent some cash for a new system, and I'm in the process of wiring it all together with our old system - sharing files, internet connection, and apps is a brave new world for our house. We're tossing a small hub into the mix, and I'm going to get Jill to start playing Ratbag's Powerslide, so I'll have somebody local to race against.
Other than that, I've been busily putting together new furniture, and trying really hard not to start chucking crap out the back door. I need a small warehouse just to put all the detritus that I've collected over the past two years in a single place. Damn ... moving is going to suck.
Music? Johnny Cash and his '70's cohorts singing about "Highwaymen", and how "Delia's Gone" - thanks to Jihad and Kali98 for that one. I'm heading out this week to get a permanent copy of Rage Against The Machine's The Battle Of Los Angeles and the Red Hot Chili Peppers' Californication - two of my favorite bands of all time, and their new albums are two of the best records I've heard in a while. After ditching Navarro and getting back together with soul mate John Frusciante, the Chilis are back in top form, with some excellent songs smacked together with their trademark booty-shakin' punk/funk. And Zack is still just as angry as he was on 1992's call to arms, Rage Against The Machine. I just dig it, baby.
Reading - I managed to get within 10 pages of finishing J.O.B. by Heinlein, and haven't had a chance to see how it actually ends. Alex is in Hell, making a few deals with Satan to wrangle Eternity with his beloved - that's all I know for now :). Been perusing the evil labyrinth that is the Windows 98SE Help (or more correctly, Hindrance) files. I actually found some information that I needed - it was a shocking moment in computing history. Thanks to whoever it is that wrote the section I needed ...
Windows2000 - should I, or shouldn't I? Being the gaming freak that I am, I ph33r the lack of gaming support that the NT kernel has had. Windows Millenium is around the corner, but I don't know if I can stand another two years of the scattershot stability and weird ass BSOD messages that my systems keep spitting out at me. Stability would be a nice thing, and as long as Win2K supports Quake III Arena, then I'm golden. Time to bust out the wallet ...
Food - not much good there lately, I'm afraid. I've been on a junk food binge that would probably kill your average diabetic - it's bad enough that my kidneys are hurting from the massive caffeine dosage they've been subjected to ... I feel the urge to eat a sack of fresh fruit and a bucket of oats with a 5 gallon drinking water chaser. Sleep would be nice, too. Ah, I can always dream, can't I?
Short rant - I just want to state for the record that I am now of the opinion that most gaming news sites really, really suck. I came to this after taking a two week break from my usual daily surfing - coming back to this stuff is not worth the effort. There's guys out there making money by cutting and pasting .plan updates and news articles from each other's sites, and writing like third graders with extra high testosterone levels. Not to mention, I've discovered I could give exactly a rat's ass about 99% of the games out there right now. There's a lot of nifty eye candy, and probably some decent games out there, but nothing that I'm willing to plunk down $50 for. I'm beginning to think that Q3 will be the last game that I'm gonna buy for myself for quite a while ...
Last bit of linkage - a seriously disturbed individual with absolutely phenomenal technical skills. Go visit the mangymonkey - a word of warning - this guy's work has some very disturbing sexual themes, as well as a very misogynistic feel overall. If it doesn't make you feel uncomfortable, you're missing something. Proceed ...
More at some later date ...

Jill and I finally busted out and started learning Photoshop 5. And I decided to put our new scanner to use - head over to the gallery, and check out the results ...

Holy hell! I actually managed another chapter on Jonas! Interested? Swing on in and read chapter three. And how about a bit of Retribution? Another bit of sketch work ...
And in case you didn't notice, I'm now on a new server! Hehe, no more banner ads, and I might actually update this thing occasionally. Well, if you found it, bookmark it. I'm hoping I won't have to move anytime soon. Good evening ...
One more thing. Check out some screenshots from my latest Quake III Arena map. Soon to be released all over the Northern Hemisphere ... hehe.

News, news, news ...
Working on Photoshop again - finally found a good basic book that I can work through to learn all those frickin' tools. I've got a nifty USB scanner that we bought at Christmas, and I'm hoping to put it to some use. Then you might actually see a redesign of this site ...
Quake III mapping is still keeping me busy - I'm hoping to pop up some screens of my two new maps as soon as they finish compiling. That may be sometime around the year 2002. I'm working in a Dune theme, trying to be inspired by the work of Frank Herbert. We'll see how it turns out, eh?
Soldier Of Fortune - if they don't do any better than the demo I tried out, they're not getting my money. Two decent single-player levels, and two of the most totally shit multi-player levels I've seen this year. At least Kingpin had some gorgeous eye candy to make up for the lack of content - it looks like this one is gonna be a bust. Well, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that 3DRealms does everyone right with Duke Nukem Forever - but I'm not holding my breath that it'll ever see the light of day. Ah well, I guess I can play Quake III some more ...
Jihad has made some progress on his first Quake III map, and I've got to say that it's kicking some ass. Instead of throwing down a mess of brushes and slapping a railgun into it, he's taking his time and constructing solid, flowing, beautiful map. Check out the site for pics, and swing by the Korova Hotel for more goodies from the man.
New jokes? Not this week. New music - loving "Goodbye Earl" by the Dixie Chicks, and just heard "Delia's Gone" by The Man In Black, a.k.a. Johnny Cash, thanks to Jihad and Kali98. Working on Heinlein's J.O.B. - A Comedy Of Justice in the reading department. Good stuff, chock full of alternative history, alternative religion, and alternative sex. Next one - Photoshop 5.0 - Classroom In A Book by Adobe Corp ...
It finally froze here in Dallas - I just about dropped my teeth. Frozen rain, and even a bit of snow, and it's still under fifty here. Man, I could almost believe it's winter.
Other fun? well, just work and waiting for income tax money to get here, so I can pay off all the bills I have stacked in my letter carrier. Speaking of which, I need to do that right now ... later.
